Lego-robots at the ISSIn an unusual competition, the worldfamous toy producer LEGO challenged numerous teams of pupils and students to develop a Lego-robot suitable for space travel. An attractive first prize awaits one of the young technicians and software engineers: the best robot will be flown to the International Space Station where it will be put in operation by the crew live on camera. Our camera-teams unfortunately had to remain on earth, but nonetheless got the chance to accompany the development of these technical innovations, which had to meet not only mechanical standards but also specific requirements for programming. In order to work fully autonomously, the robots had to be programmed in Visual Basic, C or Java. Of course the film-team was also present during lab-tests, press conferences and the final awards show to capture this superlative space-event. |
